A Post COVID-19 Social Contract For The World

A novel virus is gradually sweeping through the world, haunting one country after another.

Maybe you are reading this from a quarantine hospital room, maybe you are fighting for dying patients as a healthcare worker, maybe you are a grocery store worker who is restocking essential foods for your community, maybe you have lost your job and struggle to pay the bills, maybe if you are lucky enough, you haven’t stepped outside for a week but you still have your job. However, this is also a time for deep introspection for individuals, communities, industries and governments. In a disaster like this, there is no magical cure. We will have to pick up the residue and reinvent everything from scratch once the virus is under control.

We shall not let the virus devastate us, instead, we shall rebuild a better and more resilient system with respect for human labor and wellness — one that builds social justice, social solidarity and radical kindness. We shall redesign our healthcare system and make technology our ally, not our enemy.

This manifesto is a rallying cry for us all, no matter where we are and what we do, to wake up and be slapped in the face by the cruel reality of the world and our culture of exploitation. We will re-evaluate our priorities and values and how we can each play a role in building our future together.

It is time to act, no matter how small our steps will be.
